MEET GARRETT
Garrett was born and raised in the Rogue Valley. His commitment to public service and his career in land use law has equipped him to tackle the challenges facing Medford today.
LIFELONG CONNECTION TO PUBLIC SERVICE
Born in Medford, Garrett comes from a family deeply rooted in Southern Oregon. Garrett’s first home was a log cabin in the mountains near Howard Prairie Lake, which fostered his commitment to preserving Oregon’s natural beauty. He spent much of his early childhood in Talent, where he learned the value of public service from his mother, who served on the City Council.
Garrett attended Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Medford. His grandmother, who worked at Harry & David, often cared for him and shared powerful stories about their family surviving a Japanese concentration camp during World War II and how his great-grandfather survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki as a prisoner of war. These stories instilled in Garrett a strong sense of justice and resilience.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & LEADERSHIP
In addition to his legal practice, Garrett has a strong record of community involvement. He serves on the National Board of Directors for Dogs for Better Lives, a locally based nonprofit that trains assistance dogs for individuals with hearing disabilities and children with autism. He also coaches the University of Oregon Law School’s Mock Trial Team, helping mentor the next generation of legal professionals.
Garrett is Associate Vice President of the Builders Association of Southern Oregon and serves on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Home Builders Association, both of which work to expand housing opportunities across the state. He is also a Trustee of Oregonians for Affordable Housing, an organization dedicated to ensuring that all Oregonians have access to safe, affordable homes.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE & PATH TO LAW
After graduation from North Medford High School, Garret continued his education at the University of Oregon’s Clark Honors College, Garrett triple-majored in history, classics, and political science. As president of the Honors College Student Association, he successfully lobbied the Oregon Legislature to fund campus improvements. His work on the Mock Trial Team honed his skills in research, writing, and advocacy, leading him to pursue a career in law.
Garrett attended Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. Despite the highly competitive environment, Garrett thrived: he was appointed Executive Editor of the Georgetown Environmental Law Review, won a spot on the competitive Georgetown Moot Court team, and was a fellow in the Appellate Litigation Clinic.
Ultimately, Garrett knew he wanted to return to Oregon to apply his skills and passion for public service in his hometown.
